The St. Edward’s Cultural Events Ministry invites you to

a very special holiday musical event!

Fire in the Glen has been performing in south-central Pennsylvania since 1999, and they’ve been sharing A Celtic Christmas over the holidays for the last decade. The holiday-themed show blends traditional Scottish and Irish music with familiar Christmas melodies and some more obscure holiday tunes from England and Ireland. The band is an energetic trio featuring Tom Knapp on fiddle, bodhran and backing vocals; Amanda Wells on vocals, guitar and percussion; and Rod Nevin on vocals, Highland bagpipes, Scottish smallpipes, pennywhistles and ukulele.

A varied set list includes: What Child is This, The Devonshire Carol, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Christmas in Killarney, The Snowflake Jig, Angels We Have Heard on High, Away in a Manger, Deck the Halls, Miss Fogarty’s Christmas Cake, Lo How a Rose E’er Blooming, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, The Golden Carol of the Wisemen, It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, Joy to the World, Silent Night, O Holy Night and an assortment of traditional Celtic songs and tunes!

In April 2013, a committee formed to explore starting a concert series at St. Edward’s to invite people in the wider community into St. Edward’s. The committee drafted the following mission statement:

The St. Edward’s Church events committee will support the mission of the church by identifying, scheduling and supporting a series of cultural events designed to draw attendees to the church and to alert these attendees to other opportunities for fellowship at the St. Edward’s community of faith.

Since 2013, our Cultural Events Ministry has scheduled three to four programs throughout the year. Many of our concerts showcase the church’s piano, and we have featured a wide range of artists from outstanding local pianist Xun Pan, paired with other artists, to the Hershey Handbell Ensemble, mezzo-soprano Amy Yovanovich, Swing Street Jazz Quartet, the Rizzetta’s Tones Celtic group, Dearest Home ensemble of Civil War re-enactors, Hot House Jazz and so many more talented artist over the last 7 years!

Upon Father Stephen Casey’s retirement in November 2018, the committee voted to rename the series The Reverend Canon Stephen C. Casey Cultural Events Series.

If you would like to volunteer to help with this important (and fun!) ministry, please contact Patrick Ishler, St. Edward’s Cultural Events Ministry Chairperson at patrick71ishler@gmail.com
