St. Edward’s Weekly Email: October 18 – October 25, 2019

Dear Parishioners,

This Sunday is the first time this fall we are hosting an outside speaker to the Adult Forum between services. Doug Cwienk is a Certified Family Recovery Specialist and will be speaking on the opioid crisis. This is a subject which touches many of us and is also a great opportunity to invite a friend to attend. Join us in the Parish Hall at 9:10 am.

SPECIAL ADULT FORUM, SUNDAY, OCTOBER 20TH:  On Sunday morning, October 20, 2019 at 9:10 AM, St. Edward’s Episcopal Church will be holding a very informative and relevant presentation by Doug Cwienk, a Certified Family Recovery Specialist, on the Opioid Crisis.  The event will take place in the parish hall at St. Edward’s.

Doug is a co-founder of a support group for families dealing with addiction called, “Storm Riders.”  Doug will speak about the chemistry of addiction and its effects on the brain, and also about the effects of addiction on the family and loved ones of an addicted person.  Doug brings to the table his strong background in science, his expertise as a trained recovery specialist, and his experience with addiction in his own family.  His son, Nate, died of an overdose in 2017.

Rizzetta’s Tones, popular Celtic group, to perform at St. Edward’s in free October 20 Concert

The popular local Celtic band, Rizzetta’s Tones, will offer a free concert at St. Edward’s Episcopal Church on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. The church is located at 2453 Harrisburg Pike in Landisville, and, although the event is free, an offering will be taken.  This promises to be a great musical event and we hope you can attend (and bring a friend!) to support our Cultural Event Series!

SWEATY SUNDAY NEXT SUNDAY STARTING AFTER THE 8 AM SERVICE. Wear your sweats and jeans to church and stay awhile to help with some fall clean-up outdoors & indoors.  We will be doing outside general grounds clean-up work and indoor cleaning of sanctuary, Christian Education, and parish hall spaces and whatever else needs to be done to spruce up our parish.  Sign up sheet to help work is in the parish hall on the coffee service table.  JOIN US!  THE MORE WE SHARE, THE MORE WE SHOW WE ARE A COMMUNITY OF FAITH!  PIZZA AND DRINKS WILL BE SERVED FOR LUNCH.

Prayer Shawl Ministry:  As many of you know, St. Edward’s has a prayer shawl ministry.  Although the afternoon knit wits have not been meeting, several of its members and those in the evening continue making those lovely stitches.  Please see Michelle in the parish office if you know someone who would enjoy this gift of love.  If you would like to help us knit a prayer shawl, please call Michelle or Linda Spire (717-464-2552) for instructions.  Thank you for helping with this important ministry!

Search Committee Prayer

Almighty God, look graciously on the people of St Edward’s, as You have done so magnificently in the past, during our last search.

Enfold us in Your love as we move along Your guiding pathway.

The truth and inspiration of the Holy Spirit sustain our hearts and minds in our search.

The hands of Jesus Christ hold ours as we sojourn towards welcoming our new rector.

Nourish those who are moved to contact us, with faithful and discerning hearts.

We pray that our eventual call will fulfill God’s plan for our shared life at St Edward’s.
