Thursday Message from St. Edward’s – July 9, 2020

Dear friends,

Look for the Saturday afternoon message which will have links to all things for Sunday worship.

There are many exciting ministries that we launched in our July/August Scepter.  If you haven’t read about them, yet, we direct you to the link (above) where we hope you will join us, in ministry and fellowship, as we launch into several initiatives meant to beautify our sacred spaces, such as the Memorial Garden; soothe the soul (and our love of food) with our parish cookbook initiative; and raise funds (and have some fun!) via our annual Basket Auction.

Through these initiatives, we are working on creative ways to enfold all of us, whether we see each other at church weekly for in-person worship or whether we have chosen to stay closer to home, for now, worshipping online, so that our community of faith stays connected and strong, for each other and the wider community.  It is our hope, that you will join us!

We are so grateful for the response in our first week, as we have 5 trees purchased for our plant-a-tree fundraiser for our Memorial Garden (we are seeking a total of 20) and we have secured 5 baskets for our basket auction (we are seeking 20 baskets). Our goal is to have all of the trees purchased and all of the baskets secured by the end of August!

We are also participating in a school supply drive for the Landisville Primary Center for the 2020/2021 school year.  Supplies needed are:

Pencils
Colored pencils
Crayons
Erasers
Notebook paper
Colored paper
Glue sticks
Tissues
Hand Sanitizer
Dry Erase Markers, fine pt., black
Dry Erase Markers, fine pt., red
Folders without clasps

Let’s help our neighborhood children be ready to learn!  There will be a drop off box in the narthex on Sundays and in the front entry just inside the red doors during the week for supply drop off.  We thank you for your generosity in helping St. Edward’s reach out to the wider community.

Be well. Stay safe. Keep the faith.

We leave you, this Thursday Eve, with a Prayer for the Parish

Almighty and everliving God, ruler of all things in heaven and earth, hear our prayers for this parish family. Strengthen the faithful, arouse the careless, and restore the penitent.
Grant us all things necessary for our common life, and bring us all to be of one heart and mind within your holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Monday Message from St. Edward’s – July 6, 2020

Dear friends,

Welcome to the hazy days of summer this week!  What better way to spend a quiet Monday afternoon than to watch the St. Edward’s service, from the weekend.  In case you missed it, it was a wonderful combination of meditative and spiritual celebrating of the Fifth Sunday after Pentecost: Proper 9.

To follow along with the bulletin, the 10:15 AM service for the Fifth Sunday after Pentecost:  Proper 9, Rite II, click here to access.

Another way to enjoy our worship, if you attend the 8 AM Rite I service, is to download the bulletin, here, and then to watch the service below at the 16:30 mark to hear Father Rick read the gospel and then stay to listen to, Dina Carter Ishler, give the homily for this past Sunday.

Fellowship and Ministry Opportunities Abound at St. Edward’s!

Join us in ministry and fellowship this summer with several activities featured in our July/August Scepter. They are safe. They are community. They forge our ministry of giving to St. Edward’s, each other, and the wider community.

Wednesday Noonday Service of Healing

It is here! Starting this Wednesday, July 8 at 12 noon. Please enter through the parish hall doors. Masks are required. We have put in place healthy practices for your comfort and safety. May we ask that you please let the parish office know if you are planning on attending (it you have not already done so).

We leave you for the start of this week with a prayer For the Beauty of the Earth, from the Book of Common Prayer:

We give you thanks, most gracious God, for the beauty of earth and sky and sea; for the richness of the mountains, plains, and rivers; for the songs of the birds and the loveliness of the flowers. We praise you for these good gifts, and pray that we may safeguard them for our posterity. Grant that we may continue to grow in our grateful enjoyment of your abundant creation, to the honor and glory of your Name, now and forever. Amen.

Be well. Stay Safe. Keep the faith.

Sunday Service Online at St. Edward’s: Fifth Sunday after Pentecost: Proper 9 – July 5, 2020

We welcome you to St. Edward’s! Father Rick welcomes you!

We are holding in-person worship this weekend at 8 AM – Rite I and 10:15 AM – Rite II!  Join us!  We have put in place healthy practices for your comfort and safety!

Please know that we extend our warm invitation of worship to those in the wider community and those parishioners who are still at home, via YouTube Live, with our live streaming service each Sunday. We are one community of faith and we are worshipping together!

Click here to connect to our YouTube Channel to enjoy our Sunday service of Holy Eucharist Rite II LIVE at 10:15 AM on Sunday, July 5th.

Besides prayers, calls, cards and emails, there is one more thing you can do to support St. Edward’s during this time. Please keep up-to-date with your pledge or regular contribution. Even though we must keep our doors closed for a period of time, we also must continue to pay our fixed expenses such as electricity, insurance, and salaries. We will continue to pick up our mail, so you can easily mail your contributions to the office and we will see that they are properly credited.  We have also been blessed to discover that the diocese has set up online giving for each parish.  If you feel comfortable making your weekly giving or pledge donation in this manner (it is a secure giving tool), simply go to the diocesan web site, click on the tab up top and it will take you to a page where you can scroll down, find St. Edward’s, and continue with making your contribution!  Thank you for maintaining your faithfulness through your financial stewardship!

Something to think about:

I read an interesting article about Covidtide and perhaps

reimagining the thought of social distancing in our daily lives with

better thoughts. While we must be physically separated, we can still

be socially connected. Studies showed that people who engaged in the

disciplines listed below were able to better weather what will be a

long season of Covidtide.

  • Exercise
  • Self-care (such as participating in hobbies and relaxing)
  • Engaging in spiritual activities (prayer & meditation)
  • Interacting with other people, especially via video applications
  • Going out of your way to help other people

And, guess what?!? St. Edward’s has many opportunities to all of the

above!  Soothe your soul and read about all of the upcoming fellowship

and ministry opportunities in our Summer Scepter. (click link)

Fall Basket Auction

St. Edward’s Cookbook project

Food Pantry & School supplies donations

Potential late summer/early fall fellowship events at St. Edward’s

Re-Opening of our Wednesday Noonday service of healing on July 8th & our new “chapel” space in the Parish Hall

You are in our thoughts and prayers and please keep your

fellow parishioners, and those in need, in your daily prayers, and give

them a call, to say “hello.”

Be well. Stay safe. Keep the faith.

St. Edward’s Monday Message – June 29, 2020

Dear friends,

We hope you had a lovely Sunday. It was so nice to see people at church for both the 8 AM Rite I and the 10:15 AM Rite II service.  We continue to welcome you, as your comfort level allows, to worship with us on Sundays, and commencing next week, joining us for our Wednesday Noonday service on July 8th.  Rest assured we continue to have in place the proper protocols for health safety while also creating welcoming and contemplative spaces for worship.

If you missed our YouTube livestream, you can click here to view.  We also have included links to both service bulletins, in the event you would like to read along with the 10:15 AM service, or create your own service by worshipping in Rite I and then advancing the video to the 15:00 minute mark to listen to Father Rick’s sermon.

Click here to download the Fourth Sunday after Pentecost: Proper 8 Sunday Service bulletin for 10:15 service.

If you prefer the more meditative said service of Rite I, we have provided our service bulletin for you to download and enjoy the service for the Fourth Sunday after Pentecost: Proper 8.
If you would like to read our said service for Rite I, please click here to download that bulletin.

We continue to tweak and refine our technological process and how we deliver the various worship components to meet the spiritual needs of our parish community, while extending our welcoming to the wider community of faith.  We ask for your patience and understanding as we continue to improve our offerings.

To that end, we are also “finding our way” from the Daily Messages to a new rhythm that allows us to stay connected to everyone, while providing content that is enlightening, meditative, invitational, and informative.  For now, we will try this schedule:

Monday Message:  Recap of Sunday worship offerings, news for the week that will include activities all can participate in, a meditation, prayer or virtual tour.  Check out our events calendar on our web site to stay aprised of events and services:   https://sainteds.org/events-calendar/

Thursday Message:  Ministry news and offerings for Friday and Saturday as well as information the rector may share with us, and events for the upcoming week.

Saturday Message:  All essential links for Sunday worship: 8 AM and 10:15 AM bulletins, YouTube Livestream link, stewardship link.

FOOD PANTRY NEWS:
Looking for a volunteer(s) to pick up bread on Mondays at Columbia Weis to bring back to the pantry!  One person could do every Monday OR could “split” with one, two, three or four other volunteers…each take one week of the month!  Pick up time is 8-8:30 AM. Please contact Beth Lynch if you are interested in volunteering and she can pass your name along to the Food Pantry to see where the need is (along with other volunteers from other churches).

Also, as you may be hearing in the news, food pantries are stretched thin of supplies to meet the growing need in our communities to provide for our food poor. Many of us are so fortunate to sit down at any time during the day to a bountiful table, while so many in our community struggle to provide even just one healthy meal a day for their family.  We continue to accept monetary donations to help the HAFP, made payable to St. Edward’s, with a memo notation of “food pantry.”  Thank you!

We leave you with a writing from The Book of Uncommon Prayer of Meditations and Devotions, a compilation from various writers, which Amy Swiernik passed on to us to share with others.  Today’s meditation is a writing from Harriet Beecher Stowe, a writer and Prophetic Witness, 1896, who has been honored in the past with a feast day of July 1st on the liturgical calendar of the Episcopal Church (USA).  The current Episcopal Church liturgical calendar honors Pauli Murray – a lawyer, poet, author, activist, Priest and the first African-American woman ordained in the Episcopal Church in 1985.

Calm and Divine
Abide in me; o’ershadow by Thy love
Each half-formed purpose and dark thought of sin;
Quench, ere it rise, each selfish, low desire,
And keep my soul as Thine, calm and divine.

– Harriet Beecher Stowe

Be well. Stay safe. Keep the faith.
