St. Edward’s Monday Message – October 19th

Dear parishioners & friends of St. Edward’s,

There is so much going on this week with the basket raffle officially closed, today!  Now, the preparations are in play for creating our virtual variety show, drawing for the basket winners, all of the filming and editing that Father Rick is so graciously giving of his time and talent, all to make this a special evening for us at St. Edward’s.  We offer this event to our friends, family, and the wider community, as well, in what promises to be an amazing night, on October 24th.  So many moving parts and volunteers to thank, as well as the awesome support from everyone, with their generous purchasing of raffle tickets, dinner tickets, and the basket donations that made this all possible!

We are pleased to report that we raised $5,100!  An extraordinary outpouring of love for our ministry, here, at St. Edward’s and so meaningful in every year, but, most especially, in this season that we are in, now, as we care for each other with our commitment to our faith, and our community.

It does make one stop for a moment to take a deep breath and take it all in as a sign of God’s grace in all the ways he guides us. And, reminds us, as we experience the serenity and beauty of our other major project, the beautification of our Memorial Garden, to take the time to honor those who came before us, or left us too soon, and remember them and keep them in our daily prayers, our hearts, and in our minds, always and everywhere.

So blessed by it all and we thank you!

Please look below for details regarding the Talent Show and dinner pick-up times for Saturday, October 24th.

Thank you to Father Rick, and our Diocesan Convention delegates, for representing St. Edward’s this year at our virtual Diocesan Convention, this past Saturday.  Your ministry in representing our parish is most appreciated.

Be well. Stay safe. Keep the faith.

– Michelle

Sunday Service Online – Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost: Proper 24 – October 18, 2020

Dear friends of St. Edward’s,

We welcome you to online worship this weekend.

For those who feel comfortable with coming to church, we are fortunate to be able to hold in-person worship on Sundays at 8 AM – Rite I and 10:15 AM – Rite II. We hope that you will join us!  We continue to follow healthy practices for your comfort and safety and we are mindfully complying with mitigation efforts through the governor’s office, as well as our diocesan office.

Please know that we extend our warm invitation of worship to those in the wider community and those parishioners who are still at home, via YouTube Live, with our live streaming service each Sunday. We are one community of faith and we are worshipping together!

Click here to connect to our YouTube Channel to enjoy our Sunday service of Holy Eucharist Rite II LIVE at 10:15 AM on Sunday, October 18th.

We offer an opportunity for those viewing our online service to Donate to St. Edward’s via our PayPal link directly from our YouTube Channel.  On the St. Edward’s Channel Home Page, in the lower right corner of the image of our church is a “Donate to St. Edward’s” link.  You can also find it in the “About” section, just scroll down to “links” in that section.  We have installed it, tested it, and it works securely and wonderfully!

Click here to download the Sunday Service 10:15 AM bulletin – Rite II

If you prefer the said service of Rite I, we have provided our service bulletin for you to download and enjoy the service.

Click here to download the Sunday Service 8 AM bulletin – Rite I

We also wanted to take this opportunity to share with you important announcements that are in our paper bulletin on Sundays, that may be of interest to you, at home, regarding upcoming events, as well as prayer and adult spiritual formation opportunities.

Well, it is amazing to know that just one week ago we were at 50% of our goal, and, as of today, we are a mere $475 shy of our goal.  I believe we can make that happen by Monday, don’t you?   The fundraiser details can be found by clicking the link below. Here is a quick rundown of pricing:
$75/55 tickets
$55/40 tickets
$25/15 tickets
Boxed dinners $10/each

Checks made payable to St. Edward’s with memo line “October 24th fundraiser.”  We will be ordering our food on Monday, so if you have not placed an order for your boxed dinner, please let the parish office know by Monday morning.

And. . . just to remind everyone:  5 randomly selected boxed dinners will have a $15 gift card in them!  We will also have a separate drawing where everyone who participated in the raffle has an extra ticket set aside for the chance to win one of these four prizes:  $100 gift certificate to El Jardin Florist; $100 selection of gift cards; Greeting Cards for all occasions assortment basket;  “Dollar Store Chic” basket (you may laugh. . . but you will be totally amazed!!!)

We hope these small details make this year’s event a lifting up of our hearts, our spirits, and will bring overall good cheer to all!

Mark your calendars for the St. Edward’s Talent Show, next Saturday, October 24th at 4:30 PM.  We will provide the link to our YouTube Channel, as well as reminders, next week, for the curbside pickup of your dinners.  Dinners will include the evening program.  It is going to be quite an event!  And, please know, that you can continue to donate to the fundraiser during the event, as we have a donation link, via PayPal, on our YouTube Channel.  As always, your generosity and support of the ministry and community of St. Edward’s is so appreciated and allows us to connect with each other, and the wider community, as we all do God’s work!

Welcome to Congregational Care!  Each Saturday, we will include in our messages any submissions we receive from our parish community, as we invite you to share prayer requests or news about yourselves or your family. We believe this outreach to be incredibly important to keep our spiritual community connected to each other and to Jesus Christ, our Lord, as we walk in love with one another in our daily journeys.  Please submit your “news” to the parish office by Friday of each week and we will feature it in the Saturday email, bringing it to our hearts and minds in our Sunday prayers.

For this week, Sharon Hubbard shares:  Please say a prayer for Bob and all the men on the 5th floor at the VA Hospital.  Just received a call that the ward is in lock down for at least the next two weeks, someone tested positive.  Happily I had a visit yesterday, but my visit scheduled for next Tuesday has been cancelled. Just when I think I can stop being so very worried, this happens.

Carol Pindell, passed away this past Wednesday.  Carol, and her husband, Stu Pindell, were founding members of St. Edward’s.  Stu passed away several years ago.  Carol was surrounded by family at her home in Arizona.

May her soul, and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Join us, at St. Edward’s, and with our convocation churches, for wonderful offerings, each week, of prayer and adult spiritual formation, via Zoom. Join in, anytime!  Click here to learn more.

  • How to use empathy to safely confront anger, fear, and other powerful emotions

Besides prayers, calls, cards and emails, there is one more thing you can do to support St. Edward’s during this time. Please keep up-to-date with your pledge or regular contribution.  Pledges/giving can be mailed to the church, and we also have an easy-to-use “Give to St. Edward’s” button on our website that links to our secure Paypal page.  We have had several people engage with this newly installed PayPal giving button with great success, so please consider that as an easy way to support St. Edward’s.

To assist parishes, the diocese has set up online giving for each parish.  If you feel comfortable making your weekly giving or pledge donation in this manner (it is a secure giving tool), simply go to the diocesan web site, click on the tab up top and it will take you to a page where you can scroll down, find St. Edward’s, and continue with making your contribution!  Thank you for maintaining your faithfulness through your financial stewardship!

Click here if you would like to donate online through the diocesan portal. You will scroll down to find St. Edward’s under Lancaster. The portal is a secure giving site.

To learn more about St. Edward’s, please click our website, YouTube, or Facebook icons at the bottom of this email.

A Closing Note:  The St. Edward’s community is ALIVE and thriving, even in this season of Covidtide.  We have amazing spirit that is engaging and fulfilling.  Through our Sunday services; our Wednesday healing and meditative service; our adult spiritual formation offerings; our children’s Christian education offerings; our beautification projects inside and outside of our building; our continual connections via Shaped by Faith initiatives, and via new technology, with our convocation parishes, and our diocesan events; a virtual cultural events calendar; fundraising initiatives; the hard work of the vestry and social outreach ministries. . . and all with the uplifting leadership of Father Rick.  We are blessed to have such a wonderful shepherd and a vibrant flock, and for that, we thank God.  Please share our “good news” with people you know.  Staying connected in community and spirit will keep the legacy of St. Edward’s evergreen.

Be well. Stay safe. Keep the faith.

Here is a first peek at the progress towards completion of Phase One.  We await our granite monument and foundry plaques and will keep you informed of our continued progress.

St. Edward’s Thursday Message – October 15th

Dear friends,

Look for all links related to Sunday worship on our usual Saturday afternoon posting.

Many happenings at St. Edward’s, all listed below with easy-to-click links for reading and downloading of materials.

We have just 4 days left until the basket raffle portion of our October 24th event closes.  With such an outpouring of generosity, we are a mere $625 away from reaching our goal!  Can we do it?  I think we can!!

Also, please note:  If you have not indicated what tickets you want in which basket boxes, please get those to the parish office, no later than Monday morning. This year is a bit more labor intensive as we need to write out all of the tickets, place them in boxes, and arrange our baskets on Monday for filming the drawing on Tuesday.  Thank you for helping us make this part go smoothly!

Also, if you want to participate in the boxed dinner, please contact the parish office by tomorrow, as we will be ordering the food Monday morning.

Please share the link to the catalog (below) with your friends and family.

All Saints’ Day is Sunday, November 1st.  We have placed clipboards in the narthex for people to write the name(s) of loved ones they would like remembered at both the 8 AM Rite I and 10:15 Rite II service(s).   You may also email the parish office the names to be placed on the list, if that is more comfortable and easy for you to do.  Please note:  The parish office will be closed from October 28th – November 2nd, so it is important that you get your names in prior to that date.  Please write clearly, if you complete the form at church, so that we take care in the pronunciation of your loved ones names.  Father Rick will be reading the names, at each service, following communion.

Hempfield Area Food Pantry:   Here is a wish list of current food items for October:

Cereal, spam, prune juice, chicken and beef broth, large peanut butter, large jelly, 2 pound packages of rice, canned pears, instant oatmeal, boxed pasta, cream of celery soup, and cream of chicken soup

The Memorial Garden is complete, except for the monument, and I have to say. . .it is a sight to behold.  We invite ALL to stop by and meander up the garden path and take a look at the beautification of our sacred space.  We will be assembling the benches tomorrow and will keep you informed of when the monument and special service to consecrate the garden will take place.   It has been with good spirit, generosity, love, and the wonderful shepherding by Father Rick, of what was in our hearts, that this garden has transformed into a glorious space of contemplation, meditation, worship, and honor to all of our loved ones who are interred in this loveliest of gardens.

Please do not forget that on Saturdays, each week, we will feature a “Congregational Care” snippet in our emails.  The focus will be on those who would like to share what may be happening in their family or prayers they would like us to keep in our hearts and minds for their family members.  If you have something that you would like to share about yourself, your family, or a prayer for your loved ones, please submit it to the parish office by tomorrow (and by each Friday) so that we may include it.  This is a wonderful way for us to stay connected to each other during this Covidtide.

St. Edward’s Monday Message – October 12th

Dear parishioners & friends of St. Edward’s,

As we enter this week, we offer:  A Collect for Guidance
The Book of Common Prayer, page 100

Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Be well. Stay safe. Keep the faith.

In case you missed it!

We are in the final stages of  completing the landscaping and walkway of our Memorial Garden, this week.  We have installed the Garden entrance granite plaque “St. Edward’s Memorial Garden” just outside the garden space and once the landscapers are finished, we will be activating the fountain element as well as installing our benches.  We encourage all to come by and take a look at the beautification of this sacred and contemplative space.  Our monument is being carved at the quarry in Vermont and we should be installing those pieces over the next month.  Our perpetual plaques which will be installed on the granite monument, for the individual name plaques, are also being created at the foundry and should be ready shortly.

With just 7 days left until the basket raffle portion of our October 24th event closes, we are happy to report that through the generosity and spirit of  our St. Edward’s family, and dear friends, we are ever closer to reaching our fundraising goal.  As of today, we have raised $3,690!! Imagine that!  But we still need YOU!  Let’s work to reach our goal of $4,500 by next Monday.  What an amazing outpouring of faith, hope, and love for the ministry of St. Edward’s.

Welcome to our new feature, Congregational Care!  Each Saturday, we will include in our messages any submissions we receive from our parish community, in your willingness to share prayer requests or news about yourselves or your family.  At the wonderful suggestion of Libby Sternberg, we believe this outreach to be incredibly important to keep our spiritual connections to our Lord, and to each other, alive!  Please submit your “news” to the parish office by Friday of each week and we will feature it in the Saturday email, bringing it to our hearts and minds in our Sunday prayers.

“Dear Father of all, make me a human channel through which, as far as I am able, your divine love and pity may reach the hearts and lives of some of those who are nearest to me.  Amen.”

– A Diary of Private Prayer, John Baillie

For this week, Matthew & Libby Sternberg share the following news:  The Sternbergs are happy to report that their one-year-old granddaughter had successful cleft palate surgery recently and is now home with her parents and siblings in Spokane, WA doing well.  She can eat baby food and has said “Daddy” for the first time, due to the repair.

Thought for today, and every day:

To assist parishes, the diocese has set up online giving for each parish.  If you feel comfortable making your weekly giving or pledge donation in this manner (it is a secure giving tool), simply go to the diocesan web site, click on the tab up top and it will take you to a page where you can scroll down, find St. Edward’s, and continue with making your contribution!  Thank you for maintaining your faithfulness through your financial stewardship!

Click here to connect to our YouTube Channel to enjoy our Sunday service of Holy Eucharist Rite II LIVE at 10:15 AM on Sunday, September 27th.

A new feature on our YouTube Channel:  We offer an opportunity for those viewing our online service to Donate to St.
