Sunday Service Online – Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost: Proper 22 – October 4, 2020

Dear friends of St. Edward’s,

We welcome you to online worship this weekend.

For those who feel comfortable with coming to church, we are fortunate to be able to hold in-person worship on Sundays at 8 AM – Rite I and 10:15 AM – Rite II. We hope that you will join us!  We continue to follow healthy practices for your comfort and safety and we are mindfully complying with mitigation efforts through the governor’s office, as well as our diocesan office.

Please know that we extend our warm invitation of worship to those in the wider community and those parishioners who are still at home, via YouTube Live, with our live streaming service each Sunday. We are one community of faith and we are worshipping together!

Click here to connect to our YouTube Channel to enjoy our Sunday service of Holy Eucharist Rite II LIVE at 10:15 AM on Sunday, October 4th.

A new feature on our YouTube Channel:  We offer an opportunity for those viewing our online service to Donate to St. Edward’s via our Paypal link directly from our YouTube Channel.  On the St. Edward’s Channel Home Page, in the lower right corner of the image of our church is a “Donate to St. Edward’s” link.  You can also find it in the “About” section, just scroll down to “links” in that section.  We have installed it, tested it, and it works securely and wonderfully!

Click here to download the Sunday Service 10:15 AM bulletin – Rite II

If you prefer the said service of Rite I, we have provided our service bulletin for you to download and enjoy the service.

Click here to download the Sunday Service 8 AM bulletin – Rite I

We also wanted to take this opportunity to share with you important announcements that are in our paper bulletin on Sundays, that may be of interest to you, at home, regarding upcoming events, as well as prayer and adult spiritual formation opportunities.

If you would like to reserve your tickets for our October 24th fundraiser, in person, at church on Sundays, we will have a table in the library area, after each service, to enable people to reserve ticket bundles for the raffle as well as reserve their boxed dinner.  Once you leave church, you can re-enter through the office wing door, and please have your checks made out in advance so that we can keep social distancing in place.  The fundraiser details can be found by clicking the link below. Here is a quick rundown of pricing:
$75/55 tickets
$55/40 tickets
$25/15 tickets
Boxed dinners $10/each

Checks made payable to St. Edward’s with memo line “October 24th fundraiser.” We will note this on a sheet to give to you to complete at home (after you review catalog selections) and then you can email your ticket selections, we will fill them out for you, and place them in the boxes of your choosing.  Our ambitious goal this year is $4,500, as this is our ONLY fundraising event.  We have achieved 12% of our goal, so far, and we have 3 Sundays left.  Please join us in making this a St. Edward’s success.

To assist parishes, the diocese has set up online giving for each parish.  If you feel comfortable making your weekly giving or pledge donation in this manner (it is a secure giving tool), simply go to the diocesan web site, click on the tab up top and it will take you to a page where you can scroll down, find St. Edward’s, and continue with making your contribution!  Thank you for maintaining your faithfulness through your financial stewardship!

St. Edward’s Thursday Message – October 1st

Dear friends,

Look for all links related to Sunday worship on our usual Saturday afternoon posting.

Many happenings at St. Edward’s, all listed below with easy-to-click links for reading and downloading of materials.

Our theme, this year, for the St. Edward’s Talent Show, Boxed Take-Out Dinner & Basket Raffle is:

Our Virtual Fundraiser is here!  Click the link below to view our catalog that has instructions on how to order our boxed dinners, how to order ticket bundles for our wonderful baskets, as well as how the raffle will work this year, and when/where to tune into our October 24th Variety Show.  It seems like it is a loooonnnggg time away, but we know these days in Covidtide go by very quickly, so reserve your tickets now!  We will be drawing the basket winners on October 20th and they will be revealed during the variety show.  Our goal, this year, is to make it simple and FUN for everyone, so if you have questions or need a printed catalog sent to you to participate, please contact the parish office.

Our fundraising goal for this year is $4,500.  We’re pleased that in our first 5 days we are at 12% of our goal, but we would be remiss if we did not mention that 100% would be a wonderful thing to achieve!  So, we hope you will participate and pass it on to friends and family.  The “silver lining” is the wonderful opportunity we have, this year, for ALL to participate with dinners, raffle, and the show, because it is online.  So, join us!

JESSE TREE SURVEY 2020

October is an exceptional month as we have two full moons

October 2020 is a “Blue Moon” month with two full Moons. The first full Moon is on October 1st. The second, a so-called “Blue Moon,” occurs on October 31st. In recent years, people have been using the name Blue Moon for the second of two full moons in a single calendar month. An older definition of Blue Moon is that it’s the third of four full moons in a single season.

Here are a few ideas that we are able to help with:

Yard Work:  Leaf raking, pulling weeds, mulching, planting

House Repairs:  Sticking doors, dripping faucet, clog drain, filter changes

Cleaning Projects: Dusting high shelves, decorating for Fall, rearranging kitchen cabinets

Please contact Beth Lynch at [email protected] with your name and phone number if you would like to volunteer or if you could use some help with a chore.

St. Edward’s Thursday Message – September 17th

Dear friends,

Look for all links related to Sunday worship on our usual Saturday afternoon posting.

Many happenings at St. Edward’s, all listed below with easy-to-click links for reading and downloading of materials.

Exciting news about our St. Edward’s Memorial Garden!  We have some amazing news to share about our Memorial Garden project:

– Our monument foundation has been poured and we will be meeting with the granite artisan on Monday to secure the installation of the base and the center piece of the monument within the next several weeks, with the engraved “wing” pieces installed shortly thereafter.  The perpetual plaques for mounting the name plaques will be picked up from the foundry in 2 weeks and installed onto the granite.

– We will also be dropping off the “St. Edward’s Memorial Garden” plaque on Monday to be installed on the flat piece of granite that will serve as the marker to the entrance of the garden.

– The outside-the-fence landscaping will begin TOMORROW! Very exciting.  With the paver pathway and interior garden landscaping scheduled for the first week in October.

– The water feature and benches will also be installed the first week in October.

– The cross will be completed this weekend with the installation of the cross beam and circle on Saturday.  Followed up by staining and oiling of the wood.

It is all coming together, thanks to our Memorial Garden committee, with the pastoral guidance and shepherding of the beautification of this very sacred space by Father Rick.  To that end, it is not too late to make a donation to this important project! We have some essential elements yet to be secured, and with your help, we can bring this project to its completion.  We most heartily thank those who have given so generously to this project and we look forward to the upcoming weeks where you will see the transformation come to life!

St. Edward’s Talent Show, Boxed Take-Out Dinner & Basket Raffle:  Get ready folks!! The talent has been secured.  The boxed dinner menu has been set. The baskets have been gathered and are absolutely beautiful and by next weekend you will see a full program and basket catalog to start planning your basket ticket purchases (complete with instructions for this year).  It may be virtual, this year, but we guarantee it will be out of this world, fun, funny, & interesting with lots of laughs, wonderful community spirit and energy.  Do not miss out on what will be our ONE MAJOR FUNDRAISER for St. Edward’s for 2020!  Tell your friends & invite your family to participate!

Articles, photos, news stories should be submitted to Mac Miller for the October Scepter no later than Sunday, September 20th.  Please send to Man at:  [email protected]

Hempfield Area Food Pantry:  We are so thankful for all of the monetary (and food) donations that continue to come into our office through the generosity of our parishioners for our local Hempfield Area Food Pantry.  As always, the need continues.

Sunday Service Online – Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost: Proper 19 – September 13, 2020

Click here to connect to our YouTube Channel to enjoy our Sunday service of Holy Eucharist Rite II LIVE at 10:15 AM on Sunday, September 13th.

We ask that you keep all of the people of our far Western states in your prayers as they battle the horrendous wildfires.  Click here to read more about how we can help.

All Stauffers and Giant grocery cards are in your parish mailboxes.  Please visit the parish hall to retrieve them and place your payment in the envelope and either place in the plate or leave in the parish office.  If you need to make arrangements to pick up your cards please email the office as to when you will be stopping by so that we can confirm the office will be open.  Thank you for supporting this important ministry.

St. Edward’s Monday Message – September 7, 2020

Dear friends and parishioners,

We have so much happening at St. Edward’s this week, and every week in the fall.  Amazing Adult Spiritual Formation and Prayer opportunities; cultural events; our upcoming Basket Fundraising event culminating in our October 24th Annual Dinner & Entertainment event where we will be delighted with talent and discover who has won our famous baskets!  None of this would be possible without the amazing ministry of our parishioners, as well as the generous support of those near and far from St. Edward’s in helping us steward our mission.  Thank you!

There is a lot to mention today (below), so I leave you with a prayer for the week For Clergy and People from the Book of Common Prayer:

Almighty and everlasting God, from whom cometh every good and perfect gift: Send down upon our bishops, and other clergy, and upon the congregations committed to their charge, the healthful Spirit of thy grace; and, that they may truly please thee, pour upon them the continual dew of thy blessing.  Grant this, O Lord, for the honor of our Advocate and Mediator, Jesus Christ.  Amen.

In case you missed it!

Reminder:  Giant grocery cards should be in by Wednesday, September 9th.  I will email those who signed up to make arrangements for pick-up.

If you signed up to donate a basket, please deliver them to church by this Sunday, September 13th.

Here is our September Scepter (click here).  It is overflowing with great articles and information about all of our parish life events, worship, and spiritual formation.

And “thank you” to Mac Miller for this wonderful parish publication that you have so faithfully been creating for St. Edward’s all these years!  We are so grateful for your ministry!

Be well. Stay safe. Keep the faith.

Have you completed your Anglican Identity Assessment Yet?  If not, please take a few minutes to complete this brief assessment of the Anglican values that shape our parish by going to the following website:

           https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/9G39Y5H

Each congregant is asked to complete an assessment.  If more than one person needs to complete the exercise on the same computer, you will need to close the browser all the way back to the beginning before starting the next one.  Otherwise, you may get a message that says it was already completed.

The assessments will be forwarded directly to the Diocese where they will be tabulated.  The results will be returned to the parish minus any identifying information.

We are asking you to please complete this by September 15!

Thank you for your support and participation!

Shaped by Faith Team,

Father Rick, Julie Hoff, Herb Johnston
